What do we do with what we know?
Knowing doesn't make change easy. We can know something isn't good for us and still do it. We can recognise a pattern and still repeat it. So why do we keep doing things we know aren't helping us? There are usually reasons - Things we've learned. Ways we've learned to cope. Needs that haven't been met. Feelings we've pushed down. Patterns that once made sense.
This is where having some space can help.
Space to say things out loud.
Space to explore what drives the behaviour.
Space to understand what we've learned about ourselves, what belongs to us, what doesn't, and what we want to do with it.
Therapy can be a good place for that. Not to tell us what to change, but to give us somewhere to think about the things we might otherwise keep turning over in our own heads, sometimes bringing its own guilt or shame.
Why can't I stop?
Why can't I change this?
Why am I still doing this when I know better?
Just because we know doesn't mean it´s easy to change. But it is a good place to start.
It can be one small choice that feels a little more like us. Then another. And over time, those choices can change more than we realise.
